Archimede Seguso
Polveri conchiglia bowl
Vetreria Archimede Seguso
Italy, ca. 1953
Large glass bowl internally decorated
13 1/4" l, 10 1/2" w, 4 3/4" h (33.5, 26.5, 12 cm)
Archimede Seguso was one of the most talented glassblowers in the world, and he created some of the most striking and technically strong glass techniques of the Mid-Century period. Prior to opening his own glass company in 1947, he blew glass for other prominent firms, including ASV Barovier, Seguso, & Ferro and Seguso Vetri d'Arte. This large shell-shaped bowl is part of his famous Polveri series. Polveri refers to the use of glass powders to internally color a piece of glass. Seen here is the uncommon blue and green Polveri decor. It also features a profuse use of gold leaf, making it incredibly sumptuous. It retains the small red scalloped label associated with Vetreria Archimede Seguso on the underside.
Excellent condition.
