Archimede Seguso
Freeform sommerso door handles
Vetreria Archimede Seguso
Italy, ca. 1952
Green sommerso glass with gold leaf
8" l x 5" h (20.5 x 12.5 cm)
Few glassblowers have achieved such acclaim as Archimede Seguso. His talents for glassblowing and his eye for design were recognized at a very young age, and his work continued to impact the fields of glassblowing and design up until his death in 1999. He was employed by various esteemed furnaces on Murano, including ASV Barovier, Seguso, & Ferro and Seguso Vetri d'Arte, until opening his own furnace in the late forties. Archimede Seguso saw immense success designing and blowing glass at his own furnace, and his works are highly collected today. This set of door pulls belongs to the very early period of Vetreria Archimede Seguso and they are believed to be the result of a collaboration with Giuseppe Santomaso. Comparable examples are seldom seen today. The fronts of the handles are glass, as mentioned above, and the metal hardware is believe to be brass.
This set could easily be separated and mounted on a panel individually to act as glass sculpture. Or, keep them attached and you can simply set them on a table surface, as seen in the pictures, allowing them to act as a freestanding sculpture.
Excellent condition.
