Anzolo Fuga and Luciano Ferro
Bollicine vase
Arte Vetraria Muranese (AVEM)
Italy, c. 1965
Glass with air bubbles and polychrome a canne motif
12 ½” h, 6” w (32 x 15 cm)
While Anzolo Fuga was designing for AVEM, he partnered with master glassblower Luciano Ferro to produce unique pieces designed directly at the furnace. Both parties had influence and trust in each other, and the results were fantastic. This intimate partnership between the two started around 1963 and continued until Anzolo Fuga departed from AVEM in 1968. This practice of creating unique pieces that did not enter the general model list was common on Murano during the mid-twentieth century. These unique pieces were shown to retailers, who could purchase the single example or order additional examples, but oftentimes they would remain unique. The air bubble motif in this vase can be seen in various AVEM series produced starting the early/mid 1960s. The shape has distinct earmarks of being by Anzolo Fuga with the bulbous base going to a very narrow neck and opening, and the polychrome cane motif is a continuation of Anzolo Fuga’s design aesthetic.
Excellent condition.
