Soffiato carafe and pitcher, model 781
MVM Cappellin & C.
Italy, ca. 1930
Soffiato glass with controlled bubbles and coral-red pasta vitrea applications
Pitcher: 10 1/2" h (26.5 cm), Carafe: 10" h (25.5 cm)
MVM Cappellin & C. was only in business for a short period of time, but their designs under the artistic direction of Carlo Scarpa are among the most important and collected of the twentieth century. This beautiful pair features pagliesco colored glass with coral-red pasta vitrea rims. The bodies of each are hexagonal in shape and contain controlled bubbles. Each also has an applied round base. Truly a wonderful pair and each is executed masterfully.
Excellent condition.
Reference: The M.V.M. Cappellin Glassworks and the Young Carlo Scarpa: 1925-1931, Barovier and Sonego, p. 121 shows the hexagonal form and p. 120 shows the decor type.
