Early Navajo and Pueblo silver jewelry has such a mystique from its tangible craftsmanship and beautiful natural Turquoise stones. The early method employed by silversmiths for creating jewelry involved melting down silver coins and slugs to create their own ingot bar to then hammer into a piece of jewelry. This method was necessary in the early days and then was slowly phased out as sheet metal became widely available. The ring here has what we all love to see, ingot craquelure from the hammering process. In addition to the ingot detail, the handmade bezel has remarkable handwork to it and secures a beautiful trapezoid shaped pillow cut Turquoise. The stone is then flanked by both a row of twisted wire and raindrops atop the three-part chisel split shank. An added detail for only the wearer to enjoy is the shallow chisel stamping just below the split shank.
Excellent condition.
