Ercole Barovier
Evanescenti vase, model 19701
Barovier & Toso
Italy, ca. 1954
Pitcher-shaped vase in heavily iridized glass
10" h (25.5cm)
The Brutalist design aesthetic was immensely popularity in nearly every area of applied arts during the Mid-Century period, and Muranese glass designers naturally offered their own takes on that design style. This vase, in its wonderful asymmetrical form, is an example designed by Ercole Barovier for Barovier & Toso. It is executed in light brown glass with a heavily iridized surface. It features a tooled handle with a large, pierced section.
Very good condition. A few scratches to the body. There are bubbles and tiny flaws within the glass from the manufacturing process, adding to the Brutalist nature.
