Ercole Barovier
Barbarico vase
Barovier & Toso
Italy, ca. 1951
Dark blue-gray glass with surface texture
9 1/4" l, 7 1/4” w, 3 1/8" h (23.5, 18.5, 8.5 cm)
If you think of mid-century glass from Murano, you cannot help but think of the designs of Ercole Barovier for Barovier & Toso. The Barbarico line, dating to 1951, is one of Ercole Barovier’s more interesting fifties series and features dark blue-gray glass with a textured gold leaf surface. It exhibits the Brutalist aesthetic but in glass form resulting in a neat juxtaposition. This low vase has an iridescent interior and an applied flat disc base to ensure it will not scratch table surfaces.
Excellent condition.
