Ercole Barovier Balloton optic fish with applied details

Offered here is a rare opportunity to purchase a wonderful and early piece of Ercole Barovier design history. Ercole Barovier was responsible for numerous important twentieth century glass series across a few furnaces. This fish was executed by Vetreria Artistica Barovier, the same furnace responsible for the Primavera series among numerous other highly-collected series. This fish features a beautiful red body that was achieved by melting red glass frit into the surface until it was nearly a solid color. Then, silver leaf was applied to the surface and, over time, it has tarnished into a lovely contrasting silvery-gray color. Additionally, the body was placed into a balloton mold which was responsible for the diamond-shaped optic pattern that closely resembles fish scales. The fish also has applied details in both amber and black glass. All in all, this is a remarkable piece with immense detail and supremely high execution standards. To gild the lily, as it were, the piece retains its original Vetreria Artistica Barovier label.
