Flavio Poli
Ribbed Sommerso Vase, pair
Seguso Vetri d'Arte
Italy, ca. 1958/60
Sommerso glass in verde-giallo with ribbed surface
7 1/8" h (18 cm)
8 1/2" h (21.5 cm)
Flavio Poli was one of the most distinguished Artistic Directors of any Murano glass furnace during the twentieth century, and no individual is connected with the sommerso glass technique more than he. This pair of vases is the design work of Flavio Poli and both exhibit the color combination of verde-giallo paired with deep surface ribbing. The vase on the left in the first picture is model 12874 and the model number of the vase on the right is hereto unidentified. Though, the colorway, execution, and finishing all are congruent with the production of Seguso Vetri d'Arte.
Very good condition. Model 12874 has one tiny flea bite to the surface of one of the ribs at the rim, but it is only noticed under very close inspection. On the other vase, there is very light mineral build-up at the bottom and two very small flakes off the bottom edge, only viewable under close examination when the vase is turned upside down, each measuring around 1/16" long. Both display wonderfully and I over-scrutinize condition only for clarity.
