Flavio Poli
Iridescent Shell, model 17503
Seguso Vetri d'Arte
Italy, 1940
Heavy glass shell-shaped bowl with iridescent finish
8" l, 6" h (20.5, 15cm)
Flavio Poli was arguably one of the most talented glass designers on Murano during the twentieth century. His design repertoire spans wider than most artistic directors of the time and his designs continue to be highly collected today. Sculpted in very thick glass, this wonderfully detailed shell bowl with its lifelike shape features a strong iridescent surface finish. This sculpture is very rare and is seldom seen in this iridescent variation.
Very good condition. Two small bruises to the front, with one being near the base, each measuring about 1/4" long. A small grouping of tiny bruises, about 1/16" in diameter each, to the backside. All are smooth to the touch and the piece still displays wonderfully.
