Arte Vetreria Muranese (AVEM) Italy, ca. 1950 Glass vase with silver foil inclusions 8 1/2" d, 4 1/2" h (21.5, 11.5cm)
Giulio Radi experimented heavily in the chemical reactions of metal foils on glass surfaces while designing for AVEM and his work gained him great fame. This atypical vase shape in its short, squatty dimensions allows the decor to be exhibited wonderfully. The core of the vase is lattimo glass and it is cased in colored glass, then silver foil, and then finally a thin layer of clear glass to retain the bright silver foil properties.
Excellent condition.
