Salviati & C. Gray and white sommerso glass obelisk, pair Italy, ca. 1958 12 3/4" h (32.5 cm)
During the mid-twentieth century, Salviati & C. was known for both their glass sculpture work and significant use of the sommerso technique, and produced many wonderful series under the design direction of Luciano Gaspari. The Elementi Lagunari series is one for which Salviati is famous. Produced in varying heights, this magnificent pair of obelisks features smokey gray glass with lattimo (white) details. Particularly noteworthy is the thin white thread that goes through the body of each. This is an original series example and each retains a older style foil label on the underside.
