Salviati & C. Gray and white sommerso glass obelisk Italy, ca. 1958 12 3/4" h (32.5 cm)
During the Mid-Century period, Salviati & C. was known for their glass sculpture and sommerso technique, and produced many wonderful series under the design direction of Luciano Gaspari. The Elementi Lagunari series is one for which Salviati is famous. Produced in varying heights, this magnificent obelisk features smokey gray glass with lattimo (white) details. Particularly noteworthy is the thin white thread that goes through the body of the piece. This is an original series example and it retains a older style foil label on the underside.
