Pollio Perelda
Serie Paggio
Vetreria Fratelli Toso
Italy, ca. 1960
Thick glass bowl internally decorated
8 1/4" d, 1 1/2" h (21, 4 cm)
Upon joining Vetreria Fratelli Toso as a designer in 1948, Pollio Perelda was mainly tasked with their commercial output, as opposed to the one-off exhibition pieces created by Ermanno Toso. The Paggio series combined solid sections of colored glass that were encapsulated within clear glass in a way to create a puzzle piece motif. Given the technical skill involved in creating this series and how little you see of it today, it is my assertion that it was short-lived. In 1959, Perelda give up his full-time designer role but remained with the company in a part-time capacity until 1964.
Excellent condition. Very light traces of use to the topside and polished base.
