Vetreria Artistica Romano Mazzega
Monumental Pulegoso vase

Italy, ca. 1936
Spirally ribbed vase with applied goccioloni
14" h (35.5 cm)

Founded in 1935, Romano Mazzega produced high-quality modern contemporary art glass. While short-lived, shuttering in 1938, the firm had noteworthy production, particularly in the Pulegoso glass decor type. The vase seen here was expertly blown in cased Pulegoso glass and features six large applied goccioloni, or droplets, that go beyond the base edge. The base features an export stamp of "ITALIE" which would indicate it was made for the French or Belgium market. This vase proves to be an iconic piece of thirties glass design on Murano and was produced by a top maker.

Excellent condition. Minor losses to a few of the applied droplet tips on the underside of the vase, which are unseen when the vase is upright.
