Vetreria Artisti Barovier
A Macchie vase with handles

Italy, ca. 1915
Cased glass with applied spots of colored glass and aventurine
6 3/4" h (17.5 cm)

The Barovier name is synonymous with quality glass production on Murano and is known the world over. After leaving the employ of Dr. Antonio Salviati in 1878, the Barovier family immediately opened their own furnace under the name of Fratelli Barovier, which translates to Barovier Brothers. After a reorganization in 1896, the name changed to Vetreria Artisti Barovier. Their glass production in the nineteen teens was particularly wonderful, and the vase seen here falls within that remarkable period. The vase offered features a lattimo (milky white) core and has various colors of applied glass melted into the surface. The colors and materials include orange, green, yellow, white, blue, and aventurine. The entire body of the piece was then cased in a thin layer of clear glass to ensure a smooth surface. The scale of the applied glass spots is much larger than the handful of other similar examples found, and the dominance of orange and aventurine is noteworthy, not to mention supremely beautiful.

This vase was most likely blown by Giuseppe Barovier.

Excellent condition. Some minor tooling marks as expected.
