Vetreria Fratelli Toso
Soffiato with applied details
Italy, ca. 1910
Blue soffiato glass with mezza stampura detail and applied collar and rim
10 1/4" h (26 cm)
In the early part of the twentieth century, Vetreria Fratelli Toso was one of the biggest producers in the field of Murano glass. The talent of their glassblowers was immense and known the world over. This vase is part of that early, rich history. It was executed in a rarely seen dark blue color with very crisp mezza stampura detail at the base. The vase features an applied collar and rim, both in a complementary light blue color. The base features a multi-prong pontil scar, which is commonly found on early Fratelli Toso pieces. This truly is a striking vase.
Excellent condition with a clean interior. As expected with these very old pieces, the glass itself has some minor flaws such as ash flecks, sand, dirt, and air bubbles. This is expected, and is actually sought out because it supports the age of the piece.
