Vetreria Fratelli Toso or Vetreria Artistica Barovier
Soffiato vase with applied handles
Italy, ca. 1920
Soft green soffiato glass with iridescent surface and applied purple handles
6 3/4" h (17 cm)
Thin-blown glass in jewel tone colors was all the rage in early twentieth century. Glass houses such as Fratelli Toso and Artistica Barovier employed some of the finest glassblowers on Murano and produced some of the most interesting designs of the period. The vase here was executed in soft green glass with a heavily iridized surface. It features two applied purple handles, but under close examination you can see that the handles were made with two different colors of glass powders. A fun little detail.
Excellent condition.
