Vetreria Fratelli Toso
Pair of vases with applied handles
Italy ca. 1920-35
Red filigrana vase: 6" (15 cm)
Black with polychrome spots vase: 5 1/2" (14 cm)
For me, early twentieth century Fratelli Toso production is particularly wonderful. The furnace had such a wide variety of offerings and all of very high quality. Offered here are two nice examples of what was coming out of the furnace in the pre-WWII period. The red filigrana and a canne vase with applied amber colored handles and a disc foot dates to around 1935, while the black vase with applied polychrome a macchie dates to around 1920. The decor of the latter is sometimes referred to by collectors as Carnevale.
The pair is in very good condition. The red vase has traces of mineral build up at the midsection, but it is only noticeable under close inspection. The black vase is missing a small portion of one of the applied yellow spots. Again, only noticeable if you are really looking for it.
