Vittorio Zecchin
Soffiato candlesticks, model 2996
MVM Cappellin & C.
Italy, ca. 1925
Dark green glass with coral-red pasta vitrea rims
3" h, 5 1/2" d (7.5, 14 cm)
After the split of Giacomo Cappellin and Paolo Venini in May of 1925, Vittorio Zecchin went with Cappellin to be the Artistic Director of his newly established glassworks, MVM Cappellin & Company. Zecchin would hold this position through October of 1926. This pair of candlesticks is from the short design period that Zecchin held at the beginning of the new glassworks and represents net-new design, not simply a carryover design from VSM Cappellin Venini & Company. Given the history, this specific model was not produced at VSM Cappellin Venini & C., nor could it reproduced by VSM Venini & C. because Paolo Venini did not have access to the design, making it quite rare. Additionally, the colorway of dark green glass with coral-red pasta vitrea rims is seldom seen. For more information regarding the histories of Giacomo Cappellin and Paolo Venini, please see the following Blog post that I wrote.
