Vittorio Zecchin
Soffiato vase model 1898 and footed bowl

VSM Cappellin Venini & C.
Italy, ca. 1921
Blue colored thin-blown glass with applied details and ribbing
Vase: 5" h (13 cm)
Bowl: 4 1/2" h, 8 1/2" d (11.5, 21.5 cm)

In the early twentieth century on Murano, the concept of an Artistic Director that controlled all designs for a company was unheard of. This was until Giacomo Cappellin and Paolo Venini hired Vittorio Zecchin to design for their newly operational furnace, VSM Cappellin Venini & C., in 1921. Zecchin brought with him a sense of modernity that was diffused into each design. He penned more simplistic models compared to contemporaries and periods before this, and both critics and the buying public were enamored. Offered here is a delightful pair of works that are representational of his new aesthetic and consist of simple applied details and gentle ribbing.

Excellent condition. All applied details are present. Consistent with blown glass of this period on Murano, there are a few random air bubbles and ash flecks within the glass.

Reference: Vittorio Zecchin: Transparent Glass for Cappellin and Venini, Barovier and Sonego, p. 258 shows the vase model and page 325 shows the related series for the ribbed bowl.
